TL;DR: I'm a designer from Bangalore and I work on EVs and related products.
DIRECTOR'S CUT: Welcome, dear visitor.
I'm an industrial designer who lives and works in Bangalore, India.
I was raised in New Bombay and Nagpur. My childhood fascinations (that have endured in varying degrees) revolved around drawing, cars/motorcycles, Batman: The Animated Series, dinosaurs, aliens, general knowledge and the like. A conversation around these topics is always welcome.
I drew and painted a lot in school, encouraged by parents and that one art teacher. One thing led to another (well, not really - I scored badly in my high school exams) and I found myself doing a BFA at Nagpur University, and those odd summer/part-time jobs in art/design on the side. Fun times.
Post my bachelor's degree, I immediately joined Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay for a master's degree in design. Worked on projects like coin redesign, mobile phone usage studies and a few others. The most fun i had was on a small project where a teammate and I designed a tiny, sporty urban car. Had a great time the entire two years I spent there. The campus is beautiful, vast and they have an incredible library. The cultural and tech festivals there are legendary and I got to contribute to them as part of a design committee.
Joined TVS Motor Company as a fresh-faced designer and spent about five and a half years there. Worked on production motorcycles and concept vehicles as a small part of a fairly large design team. Still doodled a lot of bikes and cars on the side when my work computer would be saving files. Had a great first-hand experience of what's it's like to work at an Automotive OEM. Also, there was a bird park right behind the department I worked at, where one could see migratory birds from close quarters.
Left the large OEM life to join Ather Energy, a startup (now an OEM; Life comes full circle) where I have had the opportunity to work on entirely new electric vehicles from scratch for the past seven plus years. Not just EVs, but products in the EV ecosystem too.
